12 Years of FLOSS License Compliance: A Historical Perspective

Bradley Kuhn (Software Freedom Conservancy and Inc.)

Playlists: 'linuxtag11' videos starting here / audio / related events

Since working on his first GPL enforcement effort in 1999, Kuhn hascarefully tracked and followed the state of compliance with the GPL, LGPL, and other relevant FLOSS licenses. Kuhn will give a survey of the types of FLOSS compliance problems that were and are encountered, and how they
have changed historically. Much progress has been made since late 1990s, but the widespread adoption of BusyBox/Linux and Android/Linux systems has led to more GPL violations than ever before (counting by sheer volume), particularly in the embedded industry. Kuhn will discuss how our community can meet these challenges and make progress in improving worldwide compliance with FLOSS licenses
