Elemental: Building an Image-based openSUSE OS

Dirk Müller

Elemental is an open source toolkit that transforms standard OCI container images into fully bootable, immutable operating systems. In this session, we will dive into the new Elemental 3 implementation to showcase how an image-based openSUSE Tumbleweed is achieved and maintained. We will highlight its unique balance of strict immutability and flexible extensibility, driven by systemd-sysext OCI images. Through hands-on examples, attendees will learn how to leverage Elemental's declarative configuration to customize their deployments and learn how declarative, extensible container image paves the way for frictionless integration and lifecycle management in cluster-based cloud environments.
