Following the artistic freedom of the Renaissance period, expurgation of nude art became common, with fig leaves used to cover certain body parts on sculptures. On today’s commercial Internet, nudity is often banned outright, drawing an obvious parallel. But where a fig leaf merely covers up a portion of a nude artwork, modern digital censorship removes all traces, effectively disappearing certain forms of art online.
